How to create a Bitget account + identity verification

Bitget is a global exchange best known for spot, futures, and its copy trading product. This guide takes you from zero: signing up on the official site, Level 1 identity verification, 2FA, and your first deposit. Type the official domain manually (bitget.com) and download the app only from official stores.

1. What to prepare

• Age per Bitget rules (commonly 18+ — follow what is shown at signup).
• A working email or phone number that can receive OTP codes.
• A national ID, passport, or driver's licence for identity verification (accepted document types vary by country).
• A phone with a decent camera for face verification.
• A unique password — never reuse your email password.

2. Registration step by step

1. Open bitget.com or the official app → Sign Up.
2. Choose to register with email or phone number.
3. Create a strong password (upper and lower case, numbers, symbols).
4. Enter the OTP code sent to your email or by SMS.
5. Complete the captcha or initial security step if prompted.
6. Log in and go straight to security settings — do not deposit yet.

3. Turn on 2FA before depositing

1. Open your profile → Security.
2. Enable Google Authenticator.
3. Scan the QR code, then store the backup key offline (write it down; don't leave it as a screenshot in your gallery).
4. Confirm with the 6-digit code.
5. Also enable email alerts for logins and withdrawals.

If you lose your phone without that backup key, your 2FA access goes with it and recovery is a long process. This is the step people most often regret skipping.

4. Level 1 identity verification (required before deposit & trading)

Since 1 January 2024 Bitget requires identity verification for core services — crypto deposits and trading will not work without it. Level 1 is the basic identity check, and it is normally enough for deposits, trading, P2P, and withdrawals.

1. Click the profile icon top right → Identity Verification.
2. Click Verify under Individual Verification.
3. Pick your Country/Region of Residence and the Issuing Country/Region of your document.
4. Select the ID type, then enter your full name — it must match the document exactly, no abbreviations.
5. Upload the document. Starting on desktop, a QR code appears so you can continue on your phone for a better camera. Photos must be sharp, glare-free, uncropped, and completely unedited.
6. Complete face verification — follow the on-screen prompts, light from the front, no glasses, mask, or camera filters.
7. Submit, and the status changes to Under Review.

5. Level 2 (proof of address) — do you need it?

Level 2 is not a mandatory step for everyone. It is the proof of address check, requested when a specific product or risk review calls for it — for example applying for the Bitget Card, which requires both Level 1 and Level 2.

If you are asked for it, the document must:

• Be issued within the last three months.
• Clearly show your full name, address, and issue date.
• Carry a name that matches exactly the name on your Level 1 document.

Commonly accepted: bank statements, utility bills (water, gas, phone, internet), government or tax documents, and lease or tenancy agreements. Review usually takes about one business day.

6. Depositing safely

1. Open Assets / Wallet → Deposit.
2. Pick the coin (for example USDT) and a network you genuinely understand.
3. Copy the Bitget address, then check its first and last characters against the source.
4. Send a small test amount first from your other wallet or exchange.
5. Once it arrives and is confirmed on-chain, increase the amount.

For P2P: trade only with reputable merchants, understand how escrow works, and never move payment off-platform no matter how politely you are asked.

7. A safe order of operations for beginners

• Start with Spot. Learn the order book, the fees, and which pairs are liquid.
• Delay futures and leverage until you truly understand margin and liquidation. This isn't about nerve, it's about understanding the risk.
• Copy trading is an advanced feature, not a shortcut. Before following any trader, look at their drawdown, not just the profit percentage, and understand the fee split.
• Never create an API key with withdrawal permission.
• Decide upfront how much capital you can afford to risk — a real number, not "get rich this month".

8. Quick checklist

9. Common problems

• Face verification fails: light from the front, full face inside the frame, glasses off, camera filters disabled.
• Document photo rejected: turn off direct flash, shoot in daylight on a flat surface, keep all four corners visible.
• Already failed five times: there is no way to speed this up — wait 24 hours, and fix the cause before trying again.
• Name mismatch: the name on the form must match the document exactly. No abbreviations, no reordering.
• Can't verify a sub-account: by design. Verification happens on the main account only, and sub-accounts inherit its permissions.
• Deposit hasn't arrived: check the network used and the number of on-chain confirmations before contacting support.
• Can't withdraw: check verification status, 2FA, and whether a security hold applies after a device or password change.
