How to create an OKX account for beginners

OKXAccount guide · 3 min read

OKX is a global exchange offering spot, derivatives, and Web3 wallet features. This guide focuses on beginners: safe signup on the official site, country selection, email and phone OTP, KYC, 2FA, then deposit. Type the official domain manually (typically okx.com) and download the app only from official stores.

Disclaimer: account creation education only. Crypto and especially leveraged products carry high risk. Service availability per country may change — read notices in your OKX account.

1. Practical requirements

  • Age per OKX rules (often 18+ in many jurisdictions — follow what is shown at signup).
  • Valid email address and phone number (OKX typically verifies both).
  • Government ID (KTP, passport, or national ID) for KYC.
  • Phone with camera for face verification.

2. Step-by-step registration

  1. Open official OKX → click Sign Up or Create Account.
  2. Select your country/region — this affects available products and KYC requirements.
  3. Enter your email and phone number.
  4. Enter OTP codes sent to both email and phone.
  5. Create a strong password.
  6. Complete captcha / initial security steps if prompted.
  7. Log in → go directly to the account security center.
Avoid mirror/phishing sites: check domain spelling (okx.com only). Never enter a seed phrase — exchanges do not use seeds like self-custody wallets.

3. Enable 2FA before depositing

  1. Account → Security → Google Authenticator (or available 2FA option).
  2. Scan QR, save backup key offline.
  3. Confirm with 6-digit code + password.
  4. Optional: enable email alerts and anti-phishing code.

4. Identity Verification (KYC)

KYC is required for full limits, withdrawals, and most trading features on OKX.

  1. Click profile icon → Identity Verification or Verify.
  2. Confirm country/region matches your ID.
  3. Choose document type: KTP, passport, or national ID.
  4. Upload clear ID photos (front; back if requested) — no glare, all corners visible.
  5. Complete face verification: follow movements (turn head, blink, etc.).
  6. Submit and wait for review (often 1–24 hours; longer when busy).
Form name must match your ID exactly. Avoid abbreviations. If rejected, read the reason in the app and retake photos.

5. Safe deposit

  1. Assets → Deposit (or Funding Account → Deposit).
  2. Choose coin (e.g. USDT) and a network you understand.
  3. Copy OKX deposit address; double-check every character.
  4. Send a small test transfer from another wallet/exchange.
  5. After on-chain confirmation and balance arrives, increase amount.

For fiat/P2P: only trade with reputable merchants, understand escrow, do not move chat off-platform during payment.

6. Trading: safe order for beginners

  • Start with Spot → understand order book and fees.
  • Postpone Derivatives / leverage until you understand margin and liquidation.
  • Do not share API keys with withdraw permission.
  • Set a plan: how much risk capital, not “get rich this week.”

7. Checklist

  • ✅ Official URL/app (okx.com)
  • ✅ Country selected correctly
  • ✅ Email + phone OTP completed
  • ✅ 2FA + backup key saved offline
  • ✅ KYC approved
  • ✅ Test deposit on correct network

8. Common issues

  • OTP not received: check spam for email; confirm phone country code; wait 2–3 minutes before resending.
  • Wrong country selected: contact support early — changing region after signup can be difficult.
  • Face check failed: front lighting, full face in frame, no camera filters.
  • Cannot withdraw: check KYC status, 2FA, and any 24-hour security freeze after device change.
